A romantic fitted camisole with a fun, skirted guipure lace flounce. This lovely piece has a bodice in fine white "fil de lin" linen with drawn thread and bourdon embroidery typical of the 1920's. A very delicate bobbin lace edges the neckline and shoulders. The skirted flounce is made entirely of pure white linen guipure lace, dating from approximately the same period, with an intricate raised floral motif interconnected by tiny brides and picots. A hidden button panel runs down the back with six small mother-of-pearl buttons. Guipure lace originated in Ireland in the mid-19th century and is characterized by typically raised floral motifs. Its name is a bit of a mis-nomer as it's actually a kind of very fine crochet. Guipure quickly spread throughout Europe and by the early 20th century was widely used in clothing and competed in beauty with the finest French laces. This model is available with a silk lining.
