A dress up/dress down cropped bodice in ecru "fil de lin" linen with peek-a-boo inserts in authentic Craponne lace. This charming asymmetrically designed piece has wide, leaf-shaped lace straps that wrap over the shoulders as well as two lateral bands that wrap around one side of the waist and which open and close with small snaps. Craponne, a style of hand-made bobbin lace that originated in the early 19th century near Lyon, was made famous by Batiste Falcon, a lace designer from Puy en Velay. Falcon admired the Craponne lace-makers' creative use of floral patterns and was so successful at reproducing and disseminating them that in 1839 the queen Marie-Amelie, wife of Louis-Philippe, ordered from Falcon a dress entirely made in Craponne lace.
