Sublime evening sheath in sheer egg-shell white silk mousseline. The entire bodice of this sheath is crafted from a single piece of hand-made Irish guipure lace. A large, single flower in relief adorns the center of the bodice with leaves and flowers trailing around each side to the back. A single, large pleat in the front and six smaller pleats in back run the length of the silk skirt, terminating in a broad, free-form insert of hand-made linen bobbin lace. Genuine mother-of-pearl tubular beads add weight, grace and a subtle shine to the hem as well as the thin shoulder straps. Closure with five mother-of-pearl buttons down the back. Guipure lace originated in Ireland in the mid-19th century and is characterized by typically raised floral motifs. Its name is a bit of a mis-nomer as it's actually a kind of very fine crochet. Guipure quickly spread throughout Europe and by the early 20th century was widely used in clothing and competed in beauty with the finest French laces. This model is available with a silk lining.
