Matelassé boutis style hand-quilted cotton bed cover likely dating from the latter part of the 19th century. This pretty coverlet features a floral motif on one side in tones of dusty rose-red, tan and white. On the opposite side there's an equally pretty floral pattern, although in a smaller register, with denim blue lilies in a a fleur de lys motif on an off white ground. This coverlet is in remarkably good condition, the colors true and the fabric showing neither patches nor holes, which is rare for these antique quilted pieces in cotton. The only flaw of note is some wear along the seam at the very edges where the fabric in part has worn thin, but it's not particularly noticeable. Dimensions: 80 x 80in.
