A pristine set of three exquisite quality pillow shams monogrammed "FJ," or "JF" and loomed of a pure white and very silken "fil de lin" linen. The monograms, situated in one corner of each sham, are skillfully embroidered in a fine bourdon and jewel-like in appearance. The letter F is accented with a tiny fleur de lys, the symbol of royalty. Four rows of drawn thread work frame the borders, one large and intricately embroidered, two smaller and composed of crossed thread embroidery, and the last, a delicate hemstitch that defines the edge of the envelope. The largest of these rows has fancy corners with reticella embroidered starbursts. These exceptional shams are not only hand embroidered but also entirely hand stitched and they close at the back with an extra touch of refinement, six cloth covered buttons. Late 19th - early 20th c. Impeccable condition. Dimensions: interior 26.5 x 24.5in., exterior 30.5 x 28.5in.
