A magnificent 19th century antique marriage handkerchief with a large and rare border executed in "point de gaze de Bruxelles," one of the finest, most beautiful and most sought after hand made laces that exists. This beautiful piece has a circular center hand loomed of a very fine ecru lawn linen with an exquisite monogram, "SC," inset in lace in one corner. The surrounding lace, including the mesh, is entirely executed by hand and displays a lush and beautiful garden of flowers. This rare lace is characterized by its fine linen thread and a net with a hexagonal mesh; the motif of the lace is thus set off in contrast by virtue of a mesh of a smaller size and the raised relief of its contours. Certainly dating from the mid 19th century, and undoubtedly created to serve as a marriage handkerchief, this stunning piece is in excellent condition. There are only a few tiny pinpoints in the tulle and several very finely done repairs that blend invisibly into the lace background. Dimensions: 13.5 x 13in.
