An oh so feminine pair of antique pillow shams that will gussy up any bed! These pretty shams are loomed of the finest, pure white and silky "fil de lin" linen and bordered by a wide, fancy ruffle. The ruffle, measuring four inches in width, has openwork scalloped embroidery, tiny whitework flowers, and a finely scalloped edge. Each sham has a small but impeccably embroidered monogram, "B.K." in one corner. A nice touch, indicating the quality of their confection, is that the envelope for these shams is made "soufflet" fashion, that is, that the pocket of the shams is separated from the border. Closure was likely achieved with a threaded ribbon as there are paired button-holes at the back on the inside and outside of the button panel but no buttons, thus one can use either ribbons, cuff-link like buttons, or simply have buttons sewn where the outer button-holes are located. Likely dating from the early to mid 20th century, these lovely shams are in perfect condition. Dimensions: interior 26.5 x 26in., exterior 34.5 x 34in.
