A fresh, delicate and elegantly feminine pair of antique pillow shams loomed of an exceptionally fine and silky, bright white "fil de lin" linen. These beautiful shams are elaborately embroidered around their perimeter, and especially in each of the four corners, with a delicate motif of english cut-work leaves. A typically Art Deo style monogram, "MG" or "GM," is embroidered in one of the upper corners, its letters superimposed and exquisitely stitched in a very fine bourdon and post point. A slightly stylized hand embroidered and scalloped flat ruffle is also decorated with english cutwork as well as a string of pearl-like plumetis embroidered beads. Each sham closes at the back with six tiny mother-of-pearl buttons. Undoubtedly dating from the early Art Deco period of the twenties, these lovely shams are in impeccable condition. Dimensions: interior 23.5 x 23.5in., exterior 29 x 29in.
