Stunning 19th c. Linen Damask Napkins Monogrammed MM

Stunning 19th c. Linen Damask Napkins Monogrammed MM

A napkin service exquisite in every way! This beautiful set of eleven very large napkins is loomed of an excellent quality pure white linen damask with a particularly silky texture. The damask motif, a springtime pastorale of bouquets of lilies of the valley and a border frieze of daisies interlaced with large billowing ribbons and bows, shows a very nice separation in the white on white weave. A large and graceful monogram, "MM," is embroidered in an important relief of bourdon in the center of each napkin within an oval ring of damask daisies. The center of each letter is embellished with embroidered daisies and little pearls all around which pick up on the dotted pistils of the lilies of the valley. The hems are all sewn by hand with miniscule stitches. One has the clear impression that no design aspect of this stunning service was left unattended and their very large size is indicative of their excellent quality! Likely dating from the late 19th century these lovely napkins are in impeccable condition. Dimensions: 34.5 x 29in.
