As bold a statement as it's feminine, this beautiful antique queen sized sheet is a testament to the deft and sure hand of its embroideress! Loomed of a pure white and very supple medium weight "fil de lin" linen, the sheet is adorned with a magnificent central monogram "LD" measuring an important 15" square. The letters, large and entwined by a spray of embroidered flowers, are stitched in a very impressive relief of bourdon with a contrasting seed stitch, together creating an undulating play of light and shadow. The return border is exquisitely embroidered with deep, festooned scallops, the interior of which are each embroidered with a flowering sprig, also in high relief. A triple crossed drawn thread "river" of embroidery frames the border and both the scalloped and drawn thread embroidery continue up each side of the sheet return for a full 32." Likely dating from the late 19th century this exquisite sheet is in impeccable condition! Dimensions: 120 x 91.5in.
