A grand monogram and a sumptuous display of embroidery grace this superb antique queen sheet! Loomed of a pure white and supple "fil de lin" linen this lovely sheet has a very important central monogram, "MV," boldly embroidered in high relief and terminating in delicate flowering vines that loop around and lace back through the letters. The sheet return is equally important, showing a wide band of exquisitely embroidered English cutwork flowers, dotted with little round embroidered pearls, that extends out from either side of the monogram and continues for the entire width of the piece. The embroidered expanse is bordered above by an inset band of finely crocheted lace, itself framed with tiny rows of drawn thread embroidery, and below by a large, lacy drawn thread row and wide scalloped crochet lace border. These multiple elements weave together masterfully in an elaborate design that is densely worked yet fresh and delicate in its overall effect!
