A set of two very high quality ecru linen dish towels monogrammed MM in red needlepoint in one corner. These towels are made of a heavy linen with a subtle diamond pattern in the weave. The fabric is possibly a blend of linen and nettle which, used in the 19th century, is virtually indestructible, has some of the quality of corn silk and which gives the towels at once a slightly fibrous yet silky texture. Perfect condition, likely little or unused. Hand hemmed. Late 19th, early 20th century. Dimensions: 35 x 25in.
