A showpiece of superb quality this sheet and single pillow sham ensemble is loomed of a glorious quality of ecru "fil de lin" linen. A very large central monogram "JL" embroidered in a high relief of bourdon with inset lace adorns the center of the sheet atop a fresh and delightful spray of flowers meticulously embroidered in bourdon, post and tige point. A beautifully executed linen bobbin lace border measuring four inches edges the entire length of the return as well as 40 inches of the height along either side. The pillow sham is embroidered with a smaller version of the same monogram in one corner and bordered by a similar, but more delicate version, of the bobbin lace. The sham closes at the back with seven mother-of-pearl buttons. This set, very likely dating from the early 1900's, was purchased from an estate along with a number of other pieces, all of which were of truly exceptional quality. The linen, soft and supple, is tightly woven, of medium weight and has a simply lovely texture and drape! Perfect condition. Dimensions sheet: 120 x 96in., sham: 27 x 27in.
