A stunning set of 11 very large napkins loomed of a medium weight, silky and excellent grade of bright white linen damask. Each napkin has an unusually beautiful scrolling monogram "PD" embroidered in an important relief of bourdon and accented by embroidered sprigs of leaves and berries, all of which is contained in a very pretty leafy damask frame in the center of the napkin. Individual leafy sprigs decorate the surrounding fabric and a lush border frieze depicts spiralling ribbons with large open faced flowers that alternate with the same leaf and berry motif of the interior. In typical French style, the hems on each side of the napkins are stitched turned up which serve to finish the edge. This truly lovely set is in immaculate condition and likely dates from the early to mid 20th c. Of note: Although they don't come from the same provenance, this set has a monogram very similar in style to another monogram "PD" that adorns the return of one of our sheets!
