French antique damask napkins, monogram: lc

French antique damask napkins, monogram: lc

A very pretty set of 10 large napkins loomed of a heavy but very silken and excellent grade of linen damask. These napkins were never used and were found in their original state, still the wheat color of natural unbleached linen and with faint traces of the blue chalk that the embroideress used to mark the monograms. I washed them once to freshen them up and they've lightened to a very pretty champagne color which will likely lighten a bit more with subsequent launderings. A pretty central monogram, "LC," is very finely embroidered in a a scrolling bourdon and framed in a floral medallion. The surrounding damask has a textured surface which gives an elegant and subtle sheen to the surface and a border frieze frames each piece with curling openwork ribbons, flowers and floral baskets in each corner. Perfect condition. Mid 20th c. Dimensions: 30.5 x 24.5in.
