An exceptionally large handkerchief with royal provenance likely dating from the early 19th century. This lovely piece is loomed of an extremely delicate pure white linen batiste and has an elegant monogram "FR," embroidered in one corner with the crown of a marquis embroidered just above and feathery flowering vines below. The execution of the embroidery is exceedingly fine, a combination of plumetis, tige point, and net lace inserts in each of the monogrammed letters. A net of drawn thread work borders the handkerchief and a tiny lace ruffle finishes the edge. Excellent condition with the exception of two small and very well done repairs, both visible in the photos. Mid 19th c. Dimensions: 24 x 23in.
