A stunning and relatively large 19th century antique handkerchief bordered by a rare, beautiful and entirely hand made "point de gaze de Bruxelles" needle lace. This exquisite piece has a center hand loomed of a very fine ecru lawn linen. The surrounding lace is characterized by its exceedingly fine linen thread and a net with a hexagonal mesh; the floral motif of the lace is thus set off in contrast by virtue of a mesh of a smaller size within the pattern and a raised relief to its contours. This handkerchief likely dates from the mid 19th century and is in remarkably excellent condition! There is just a tiny pin prick in the lawn and several tiny holes in the net (visible in the photos but practically invisible to the eye). Dimensions: 15.5 x 15.5in
