A magnificent pair of antique pillow shams loomed of an excellent grade of pure white "fil de lin" linen. These beautiful shams are monogrammed "MR" in one corner and adorned with an exceptionally wide border of hand made Renaissance cutwork embroidery with a floral motif. The monograms, decorated with tiny flowers, are finely executed in bourdon, tige point and English cutwork embroidery. The Renaissance embroidered border shows an exceptional finesse and is itself re-embroidered with little raised polka dots in point de bourdon. Closure at the back with five mother-of-pearl buttons. Pairs of shams of this quality are rare in such a fine state of preservation! Dating likely from the early to mid 20th century these shams are in impeccable condition.
