A beautiful pair of antique pillow shams loomed of a fine but tightly loomed and very silken pure white "fil de lin" linen. These lovely shams have an important central monogram, "AC," exquisitely embroidered in point de bourdon with filet lace inserts and decorated with sprigs of embroidered flowers. All four corners of each sham have a pretty Venetian lace insert and a fancy drawn thread row runs along each side connecting them. A simple small hemstitch frames the border and they close at the back with six mother-of-pearl buttons. This pretty pair of shams likely dates from the early to mid 20th century and is in impeccable, unused condition. Of note: although the face of the shams is loomed of pure linen, the backs are a very fine linen/cotton blend. Dimensions: exterior 31 x 29in., interior 27 x 25in.
