A splendid little antique baby dress full of sweetness and charm! This beautiful piece is fashioned in pure white cotton pique with a horizontal stripe in the weave and wide, soft pleats at the waist that open to a very full skirt. Two bands of English cutwork embroidery run the length of the front of the dress and are echoed in the embroidered trim on the cuffs of each sleeve. A wide open work embroidered and scalloped ruffle borders the edge of the skirt and another tiny scalloped trim borders the collar. The high waist is defined by a "passe-ruban" (see third photo) which enables the threading of a ribbon such as the one pictured, and the dress closes at the back with three mother-of-pearl buttons. Likely dating from the early 20th century this darling little dress is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: overall length 20.5in., width across the chest 11.5in., width between the shoulders 8.5in. Suitable for an infant of nine to eighteen months.
