Two wonderful identical Japanese fabric panels with a motif of large stylized pelicans on the wing. This stunning printed fabric is made of "cretonne," a cotton quite similar to barkcloth, and has a rich burgundy ground (slightly deeper in color than it appears in the photos) with stylized wave-like lines in red and a free-form sea-weed like pattern in cream. Two different styles of pelicans, in tones of peach and cream outlined in black, dominate the print. Each panel measures 91.5in. in length, making for an important length of this stunning fabric. Likely dating from the Art Deco period of the early 20th century, these two fabric panels are in impeccable condition. Dimensions each panel: 92 x 33in.
