linen damask hunting motif table service monogram GD

linen damask hunting motif table service monogram GD

A rare and perfectly magnificent table service that was traditionally used to celebrate the hunt. This beautiful service, comprised of a tablecloth and twelve matching napkins, is loomed of an excellent quality medium weight ecru linen with a silken texture and a very good separation of the damask motif. Both the cloth and napkins have a broad and elaborate border frieze depicting leaping stags and hunting dogs in a woodland setting. A delicate overall motif of flowers and oak leaves decorates the surface of the tablecloth and all the pieces have a central medallion of oak leaves in the damask terminating at the top and bottom of the circle with crossed hunting knife and riding crop. An exceptional monogram, "GD," is meticulously embroidered in an important relief of bourdon at the center of each medallion on all the napkins and twice in the center of the tablecloth. This stunning service, likely dating from the turn of the 20th century, is truly exceptional in every aspect of its beauty and quality! Hand hemmed. Impeccable condition. Dimensions: tablecloth 90.5 x 63in. , napkins 30.5 x 25.5in.
