A pair of spectacularly embroidered antique pillow shams that will dress up the entire bedroom! These stunning shams, loomed of a pure white and fine "fil de lin" linen, likely date from the end of the 19th century and feature the kind of embroidery that is rare for its beauty, finesse and precision. The borders of the shams are finished with hand embroidered scallops with a perfect little flower in the curve each of each "shell." Then, at the edge of the envelope, a meandering chain of exquisite flowers and leaves embroidered in bourdon and tige point winds around the entire periphery. In one upper corner of each sham, a large and beautiful monogram, "ST" is embroidered in a high relief of bourdon, each letter accented in its center by a single flower. Both shams close at the back with seven tiny mother-of-pearl buttons and are in impeccable condition. Dimensions: interior 26.5 x 25in., exterior 33.5 x 32in.
