A stunning service of eleven large dinner napkins loomed of a pure white linen damask with a rare single monogram "B" embroidered in their center. The embroidery is rare not only for the fact of there being a single letter but also for its style and finesse. The B is embroidered with red thread in Beauvais point, an exceedingly fine chainstitch that is more typical of 18th and early 19th century work. The stitches are miniscule and the execution is at once delicate and dramatic. An extremely fine white embroidery, also in Beauvais point, borders each letter and although almost invisible to the eye adds an elegant finish. These napkins are loomed of an unusually luxurious and silky white linen damask with a lovely motif of roses, daisies, acanthus leaves, and chains of stylized tulips which frame the monogram as well as the outer border of each napkin. Likely dating from the late 19th century this beautiful service is in perfect condition. Dimensions: 31.5 x 28.5in.
