A museum quality 19th century antique handkerchief with a beautifully executed border of Brussels "point de gaze" needle lace, a rare and complex lace highly sought after for its unparallelled beauty! This exquisite piece has a center hand loomed of a very fine ecru lawn linen with a large, jewel like monogram "JH" embroidered in exceedingly fine points of plumetis, each letter adorned with an embroidered rose with a lace center. The surrounding lace is characterized by its fine linen thread and a net with a hexagonal mesh; the floral motif of the lace is thus set off in contrast by virtue of a mesh of a smaller size and the raised relief of its contours. This stunning handkerchief likely dates from the mid 19th century and is in remarkably impeccable condition! Dimensions: 14.5 x 13.5in.
