An exceptionally elegant banquet table service of a rare quality! This superlative service, comprised of a tablecloth and fifteen assorted very large dinner napkins, is loomed of some of the finest, pure white and silken linen damask that exists - very tightly loomed, sleek to the touch and with a fluid and sensual drape. A magnificently decorative monogram, "LH" or "HL," appearing twice in mirror image on the tablecloth and once in the center of each napkin, is exquisitely embroidered in an important relief of bourdon and very fine post point with the letters interlaced and overlapping. A tiny fleur de lys, symbol of nobility, crowns each monogram. The damask motif, intricate, delicate and yet tailored, decorates the fabric with lace-like stripes running horizontally across the tablecloth and a border frieze with a contrasting geometric lace-like motif forming an inner frame around the tabletop while a second identical outer border frieze traces the border of the cloth. The napkins have the same pattern in a smaller register with one singe border motif. Very likely dating from the late 19th century, this absolutely stunning service is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: tablecloth 136 x 82in., napkins 36 x 28.5in.
