antique silk embroidered baby dress

antique silk embroidered baby dress

A spectacular antique baby dress that likely dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. This small treasure is made of an off-white silk tulle that is very elaborately embroidered throughout the bodice, short puffed sleeves, and circumference of the skirt with a dense "soutache" embroidery with a scrolling motif, as well as with little coiled polka dots throughout the body of the dress and the edges of the sleeves. The skirt of the dress is unusually ample and falls with a heavy drape due to the weight of the dense embroidery. This dress is sheer and was likely intended to be worn over a silk underslip. (If desired, it's possible to have a custom silk lining added for an additional $100.) Closure at the back with three tiny mother-of-pearl buttons. Flawless condition apart from one tiny darn in the tulle just next to the button closures at the back of the dress, which is thus practically invisible. Dimensions: overall length 22in., width across the chest 11.5in., width between the shoulders 10in. Suitable for an infant of 15 to 24 months
