Matelasse hand-stitched coverlet in a delightful and lush cretonne from the late 19th century. Each side shows a different floral motif, one side featuring a persimmon red ground with alternating bands of exotic flowers and a trellis pattern, and the reverse side showing an overall motif of full open poppies and wildflowers on a warm dove grey ground. Often these hand made bedcovers had a prominent side with beautiful fabric and a less interesting fabric on the reverse side, but this bed cover is exceptional in that not only is it in immaculate condition and the colors remaining vibrant, but both faces are equally beautiful!
