A stunning and typical example of Alsatian folk art, this table runner is loomed of a natural "porridge" color linen and is hand embroidered in red with scenes of village life in Alsace and a fleur de lys motif. On each side of the runner is depicted a 19th century woman standing in front of a fountain, one drinking and the other gathering water. A decorative element embroidered with flowers creates a bridge between the two scenes. As with much of Alsatian folk art, the themes depicted are those of everyday life. The runner is finished along its edges with a hand embroidered scallop in a fleur de lys pattern. A beautifully executed and at the same time completely charming piece of fok art from the late 19th to early 20th century. Perfect condition. Dimensions: 36 x 21in.
