A truly special and spectacularly beautiful handkerchief hand loomed of the finest eggshell white linen batiste. This exceptional piece dates from the Napoleon III period, roughly 1850 - 1875, and is a marvel of meticulous embroidery. Flowering leafy vines create a border frame and in each corner a triple medaillion is encrusted with embroidered leaves and has at its center a flower with an openwork center. A perfectly executed and very elegant monogram, "MM," decorates one corner. The edges are finely embroidered in a tooth-like scallop and a very pretty hand made Valenciennes lace finishes the piece.
