A striking 19th century antique sheet that's all about the monogram! This lovely sheet, loomed of a medium to weighty pure white linen with a fluid drape, has an immense fancy central monogram "MG" hand embroidered in a very important relief of bourdon and adorned with a graceful ribbon, embroidered in a meticulous seed stitch, that ties the two letters together. A single jewel-like butterfly is posed just above, as if about to alight on the point of the M. These grand style monograms were popular during the Napoleon III period, in the latter half of the 19th century from when this sheet very probably dates. An elegant crossed drawn thread row runs the length of the return border and the hem at the foot of the sheet is hand sewn with miniscule stitches. Impeccable condition. Dimentions: 126 x 81in.
