A treasure of an antique Christening gown in white silk embroidered tulle with its matching fine white cotton and tulle full length slip. This magnificent piece has four large oval medallions that decorate its skirt, each finely embroidered with flowers and raised bourdon leaves, and with a frilly hand-made Valenciennes lace border. The body of the dress and the sleeves are embroidered throughout with finely executed flowers and a lovely little collar picks up on the elaborate embroidery and lace of the medallions below. A matching full slip in fine white cotton accompanies the dress and is itself adorned with tiny tulle borders at the neck, sleeve openings, and frilled hem. Both the dress and slip close at the back, the slip with tiny mother-of-pearl buttons, and the dress with tiny round pearl-like buttons. The second to last photo shows the dress without the slip underneath and the last photo is of the slip alone. This marvelous ensemble likely dates from the very early 20th century and is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: overall length 29in., width across chest 10in., width between the shoulders 8.5in.
