A spectacular antique Christening gown both for its beauty and its impressive size! This stunning gown is entirely hand made of a lovely pure white cotton pique with a delicate raised motif of tiny fleurs de lys. The bodice and front panel of the skirt are adorned with inset bands of English cutwork embroidery alternating with wide scalloped ruffles also in English cutwork. At the base of the skirt, four of these alternating bands of embroidery and ruffles run horizantally, creating a full and frilly contrast. The sleeve cuffs and collar are also trimmed with cutwork ruffles and a "passe ruban" encircles the high waist through which a silk ribbon can be threaded. Four mother-of-pearl buttons close at the back and an additional two buttons fasten the passe ruban. This gorgeous piece likely dates from the early 20th century and is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: overall length 37in., width across the chest 9.5in., width between the shoulders 8in.
