A beautifully ethereal long antique Christening gown fashioned of an airy and diaphanous ecru lawn linen, the very finest linen which was often reserved for handkerchiefs. This lovely piece has a bodice with tiny pleats and several vertical rows of inset Valenciennes lace as well as a horizontal lace band that encircles the high waist. A pretty bib-like tulle and lace panel with inset lawn corners embroidered with lilies-of-the-valley lays over the bodice and a tiny bobbin lace circles the neckline. The long sleeves are bordered by a fine Valenciennes lace and the full skirt has a delicate scalloped lace border. Four mother-of-pearl buttons close at the back. This stunning piece likely dates from the late 19th to early 20th century and is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: overall length 40in., width across the chest 12in., width between the shoulders 9in.
