A lovely and exceedingly delicate 19th century handkerchief loomed of the finest ecru lawn linen. This pretty piece has a splendid monogram, "JP," in one corner, its letters superimposed and embroidered in bourdon, post point and inset lace. An inset row of Valenciennes lace with a charming motif of butterflies and flowers creates an inner frame and a wide Valenciennes floral lace ruffle finishes the border. Certainly dating from the mid to late 19th century this beautiful handkerchief is entirely hand made and generally in excellent condition. There is however of note a single small pinhole to the left of the monogram, visible in the photos. Dimensions: 16 x 16in.
