antique linen hand towels monogram AC

antique linen hand towels monogram AC

A marvelous set of three antique hand towels monogrammed "AC." These lovely towels date from the early to mid 19th century and are loomed of a wonderfully silken and slightly slubby pale cream colored linen damask with an overall geometric motif of squares and stylized flowers with striped borders. Each towel has a fancy monogram, jewel-like in its beauty and precision, exquisitely embroidered in a high relief of bourdon, the letters filled in with pearl like beads of embroidery. The hems are hand stitched with miniscule points. Typical of such early textiles, the selvaged edges are slightly irregular due to the fact that these towels were likely woven on manually operated looms. Impeccable condition. PLEASE NOTE: This sale is for three identical towels even though four towels are featured in the photos! Dimensions: 32 x 26in.
