A little treasure of an antique Christening gown in a featherweight pure white cotton voile with wonderful layered pleating and embroidered cutwork ruffles. This beautiful piece has an elaborate placket front composed of vertical bands of softly layered pleats alternating with delicate strips of floral embroidery and bordered on either side by a large scalloped ruffle with embroidered flowers and English cutwork. The bodice is cut snug and the skirt is very ample and billowy. There are small, capped sleeves also in English cutwork, and a dainty lacy cutwork trim around the neckline. Two long, wide sashes tie in a pretty bow to cinch the waist behind and four miniscule cloth covered buttons fasten the bodice in back below the neck. This very pretty gown, likely dating from the early 20th century, is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: overall length 37.5in., width between the shoulders 8in., width across the bodice 8.5in. Suitable for a newborn to four month old baby.
