A fabulous pair of antique pillow shams that are as refined as they are beautiful! These exquisite shams are entirely hand-stitched and loomed of a pure white, silken and very tightly woven "fil de lin" linen with a large and stunning monogram, "LP," embroidered in the outside corner at the top of each sham. The letters of the monogram are rendered in an exceptional relief of plumetis embroidery and adorned with flowers and leafy vines. The outer edge of the envelopes are bordered by a flat ruffle with a finely hand embroidered scalloped edge and dense floral embroidery throughout. The exceptional skill of the embroideress is manifest in the precision and beauty of the floral work! At the back, five cloth covered buttons add a little touch of luxury to the button closures. Likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this superb pair of shams is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: interior 24.5 x 22in., exterior 30.5 x 27in.
