A rare and unique service of twenty four large dinner napkins in a luxuriously fine "fil de lin" linen. This exquisite service - rare not only for its ample number and beauty but also for the fact that it's in new, never used condition - is loomed of a very tightly woven and supple champagne colored linen. Each napkin is adorned in its center with a jewel like white monogram "SP" or "PS," the letters superimposed and gracefully hand embroidered in bourdon and post point. Two drawn thread ladder-work rows are hand embroidered around the periphery of each napkin creating an outer frame. This service, likely dating from around 1900, has never been used although it was recently washed and ironed in order to freshen it up after having been stored for a century! Its condition is perfect save a few very faint traces of storage marks along the folds of several napkins which will completely disappear with subsequent launderings. Dimensions: 31 x 25.5in.
