antique embroidered bridal handkerchief

antique embroidered bridal handkerchief

A marvelously delicate and refined marriage handkerchief likely dating from the mid to late 19th century. This perfect gem is hand loomed of a superbly fine ecru lawn linen and is beautifully embroidered with a ribbon of flowers all around its border, with larger bouquets in each of the four corners. The edge of the hanky is remarkably finished with a hand scalloped edge consisting of a ring of small embroidered circles, each with an embroidered rose at its center. All of the embroidery is masterfully achieved in the most minute stitches of plumetis, tige and post point, the leaves decorated with tiny lace centers. A lovely two inch hand-made Valencienne lace ruffle surrounds the hanky, accounting for probably more than three yards of lace! Truly a piece of the finest craftsmanship, this work of art is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: 16 x 15in. plus 2 in. lace border
