A stunning display of embroidery decorates this beautiful pair of antique pillow shams! The shams, loomed of a pure white, weighty and silken 'fil de lin' linen, have a bold and pretty monogram "BP" embroidered in one corner and adorned with delicate flowering sprigs. Each corner of the shams has an inset diamond of Venetian lace surrounded by embroidered beads and cutwork vines which lend a jewel-like quality to the decoration. A fancy crossed drawn thread row is embroidered on each of the four sides, connecting the corner motifs, and a tiny drawn thread hemstitch defines the edges. Each sham closes at the back with six mother-of-pearl buttons. Likely dating from the turn of the 20th century, this exceptional pair of shams is in perfect, as-new condition.
