A spectacular King Size sheet and two sham set that hits every high note: of noble provenance, stellar in quality, and breathtakingly beautiful! This superb set is loomed of a pure white "fil de lin" linen that is silken to the touch and has a sensual and luxurious drape. The sheet return features an important and exquisitely embroidered central monogram, FG or GF, the letters superimposed and executed in high relief with eye-popping detail, topped by an embroidered vi-comtal crown. The sheet border is delimited by a delicately embroidered hemstitch and finished with a large bande of floral and fleur de lys patterned, gently scalloped bobbin lace in the early Flemish or Italian style. The two matching shams are each embroidered with the identical crowned monogram in a smaller register that appears in the opposite corner of each sham such that they sit as "book-ends" at the head of the bed. The shams are framed by two rows of drawn thread ladder-stitch embroidery and, in keeping with the sheet, have gently scalloped bobbin lace borders. This set, rare for its important dimensions, noble origins, and exceptional style likely dates from the mid-19th century and remains to this day in perfect, as-new condition! Dimensions: sheet 146 x 110in., shams exterior 30 x 29in., interior 25 x 24in.
