antique linen embroidered pillow shams monogram AV

antique linen embroidered pillow shams monogram AV

An exceptionally beautiful pair of antique pillow shams loomed of the very best grade of pure white and silken "fil de lin" linen. These superb shams each have a jewel-like monogram, "AV," intricately embroidered in an important relief of bourdon and decorated with flowers and leaves at their centers. Each sham has a delicate ring of exquisite little flowers connected by pearl-like strands of tiny embroidered polka dots wrapping around their perimeter and a very finely embroidered scalloped and ruffled border at their outermost edge. Classically elegant and feminine at the same time, these beautiful shams will dress up any bed with style! They close at the back with seven tiny mother-of-pearl buttons. Likely dating from the mid to late 19th century these exceptional shams are in almost perfect condition. Of note: on the reverse side of one sham there is a very small, original and exquisitely executed darn measuring not even half an inch in width (see enlargement last photo) as well as a mild defect in the weave of the linen, also on the reverse side of the same sham. As these are on the back of the piece they in no way affect either the look, durability or integrity of the sham. Dimensions: interior 27 x 26in., exterior 33 x 32in.
