A perfectly beautiful little antique christening gown that despite its 100 years or so of age is as fresh as the day it was made! This darling little robe is fashioned in a pretty, pure white, cotton pique with a subtle waffle weave on the face of the fabric and a soft flannel backing. The bodice and lower part of the skirt are beautifully detailed with curling tendrils of vines and flowers in hand embroidered English cutwork, and all of the edges are finished in hand embroidered scallops - including both edges of the tiny shoulder straps! The style of the robe is a high waisted wrap-around with an opening at the back of the skirt, an embroidered and scalloped waistband, and two mother-of-pearl buttons that fasten at the back. The shoulder straps fasten in the front as well with mother-of-pearl buttons. Likely dating from the turn of the 20th century, this darling little Christening gown is in impeccable, as-new condition. Dimensions: Overall length: 37in., width across the chest 10.5in., width at the base of the skirt 27.5in.
