An exceptional antique marriage sheet with a very important and stunning monogram, "AJ." This lovely sheet is loomed of a very fine, medium weight, pure white "fil de lin" linen with a smooth hand and a supple drape. The monogram, measuring 17" wide by 11" high, occupies an important place in the center of the sheet return and is embroidered with beautiful scrolling letters in an important relief of plumetis and post point. The two letters are adorned by a lavish spray of budding vines and full faced daisies. The border of the sheet return shows deep, V-shaped scallops with an interior motif of cutwork circles and festive embroidered rings along the edge with embroidered flowers in the space between each scallop. The scalloped border continues along the entire width of the sheet return as well as 38" of its height on either side. The hem at the foot of the sheet is hand sewn with miniscule stitches. Likely dating from the latter 19th century, this very pretty sheet is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: 136 x 96.5in.
