A perfect little creampuff of an antique baby dress if there ever was one! This magnificent little confection is actually composed of three individual layers: a cream colored silk long sleeve full skirted sheath, a beige silk tulle long sleeve dress with a scalloped and embroidered border, and a beige silk tulle matching pinafore with a shorter embroidered full skirt and embroidered cape style collar. Both silk tulle elements are finely embroidered with white silk butterflies and flowers. The layering of the two transparent tulle dresses over the voluminous silk sheath makes for a soft and frothy fullness, and the embroidered butterflies and flowers add a delicate hint of three dimensionality as they're visible not only on the outer skirt and collar but also on the inner one in peek-a-boo fashion. The hems of both tulle skirts as well as the collar and sleeve borders are scalloped with tiny picot borders and the outer pinafore closes elegantly at the back with three crochet covered buttons. Dating very likely from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century, this delightful little baby dress is in impeccable condition!
