Jewel-like embroidery worthy of museum display graces this simply superlative antique queen sheet! Loomed of a snow white "fil de lin" linen that is as fine in quality as linen gets, with an extremely silken hand and a fluid and weighty drape, this stunning sheet is decorated in its center with an elegant scrolling monogram, "MV" or "VM." The letters, superimposed, are meticulously embroidered in an important relief of bourdon and filled in with miniscule post point stitches, the combination of which creates a three dimensional play of light and shadow. The entire width of the sheet return is laced with sprays of wildflowers and looping vines, the embroidery exquisitely sculptural in its execution and testament to a rare and remarkably accomplished hand! A delicate crossed drawn thread row of embroidery underscores the floral band to add a finishing touch to the design. Very likely dating from the latter half of the 19th century, this magnificent sheet is in impeccable, as-new condition! Dimensions 130 x 92in.
