An exceptional table service in every way, this superb and important banquet tablecloth and 18 napkin set is an example of the top of the line in the quality of its materials, design, craftsmanship, and very important size! Loomed of a luxuriously crisp and silken pure white "fil de lin" linen damask, the service boasts an overall motif of delicate floral bouquets with a contrasting floral border frieze. The tablecloth is embroidered with two central monograms, "PL, " in mirror image, the letters finely rendered in bourdon and dotted with pearls along the stem of each letter around which is entwined a floral sprig. Each of the 18 napkins has the same floral bouquet motif and contrasting border, as well as a single identical central monogram in a smaller register. All of the hems are turned up in French fashion and very finely stitched in a thin band that defines the edges. This table service likely dates from the turn of the 20th century and is in impeccable overall condition, however the tablecloth does have a single flaw, an expertly done repair that measures approximately 1.5" x 0.5," located about six inches below one of the monograms. I normally don't offer linens that have any defects but I made an exception here because this service is truly splendid in every way! The last photo shows the repair. When the cloth is spread on a table, and especially if posed on a white under-cloth, the repair blends into the damask motif and is practically invisible. The price of the service reflects the fact of this imperfection. Dimensions: tablecloth 197 x 83in., napkins 31.5 x 31in.
