A rare and sumptuous beauty with noble provenance! This splendid sheet, loomed of the very finest pure white and airy "fil de lin" linen, is elaborately embroidered throughout with a delightful floral motif executed in Richelieu cutwork embroidery, the flowers of which are re-embroidered with delicate lace-like stitches at their interior. The festive design, reminiscent of decorative wrought iron balconies spilling over with blooms, extends throughout the entire width of the sheet as well as a full 40 inches of the height on either side of the return. The center of the return is marked by a large embroidered flower above which the monogram, "BC" or "CB," has been exquisitely superimposed and embroidered in very fine bourdon and post point. The letters terminate in a fleur de lys motif, the symbol of French nobility, and are capped by an equally exquisite crown of a count. The entire border of the return is also sumptuously embroidered with a scalloped edge of which each scallop is made of a swirling cutwork fleur de lys, and the hem at the foot of the sheet is hand stitched with miniscule points. Likely dating from the late 19th century this extraordinary piece is in impeccable, as-new condition! Dimensions: 148 x 91.5in.
